To HICE Participants

Happy New Year, and welcome back to the bi-monthly CEO Update, designed to keep members apprised of the current happenings at HICE! Here is an update on what has been going on since my last report:

As we close out our first year under a new organizational structure, I wanted to take this opportunity to share a few milestones and updates on where things are headed, as we are excited to continue on this journey of further growth for the HICE organization and continuing to find more and better ways to support our participating organizations!

In addition to now having a dedicated CEO position along with our Administrative Operations Manager, Patty Hermanns, we have also added a new Administrative Coordinator, Rebekah Baljet. Rebekah has hit the ground running and is doing a tremendous job in providing focused support to the backbone of the organization, our dedicated volunteers who lead/co-lead the HICE teams and workgroups. She has been undergoing training as our newest staff member and attending team meetings, and she will be meeting with each of the teams to learn how she can best assist them and support their activities.

We are also pleased to announce and honored to welcome two new members to the HICE Board of Directors! Angela Dorsey, Director of Delegation Oversight at Blue Shield of California, and Vivian Khalil, Senior Vice President of Clinical Services, Quality, at Heritage Provider Network (HPN), have both joined as directors this month. Both of these highly-qualified individuals have previous experience with HICE and bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise cultivated during their many years of experience in the industry. We are very excited to have them on the Board to help us take HICE successfully into the future!

As I shared in my year-end report, a main area of focus for HICE in 2023 will be around compliance review and audit structure to ensure that all of the information on the website is up-to-date and meets the most current regulatory requirements. We are looking at possibly expanding our staff to support us in those efforts, and in the meantime, we will begin the process of reviewing all HICE website documents following an audit schedule, starting with the health plan-specific letter templates that are currently housed in the website library.

Templates/documents will not be available while undergoing this audit review process, which for the health plan-specific letter templates is targeted for completion by the end of the first quarter of 2023. Delegates/providers in need of these templates will need to reach out to the health plans directly during this time, and the web-based upload tool that health plans use to post their specific letter templates directly to the website will be unavailable as well.

HICE has begun this process by reaching out to participating health plans to determine if they want to continue using the HICE website posting tool to make their templates available for ease of delegate access. If so, the plan will be requested to review all templates for accuracy and confirm compliance with regulatory requirements within a specified timeframe.

As we continue this website review process throughout 2023, we will keep HICE participants apprised of the audit schedule and how that will impact access to certain documents and/or areas of the website.

We look forward to what lies ahead for the organization in 2023 as we continue to expand and grow, and as always, I welcome your input or suggestions on how we can better support the industry in working collaboratively to improve health care regulatory compliance.

Until the next update, please feel free to contact me at mmyers@iceforhealth.org or at 530-562-4235, with any suggestions, questions or comments. Thank you!
