To HICE Participants

Welcome back to the bi-monthly CEO Update, designed to keep members apprised of the current happenings at HICE. Here is an update on what has been going on since my last report:

HICE 2024 Annual Conference / Save the Dates!

The HICE 2024 Annual Conference will be held on Monday, December 9 & Tuesday, December 10 at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa in the Coachella Valley of Southern California. More information will be available soon – you won’t want to miss it, so don’t forget to save the dates!

2024 Operating Budget Funding Request Letters

As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, HICE relies on annual contributions from health plans, provider organizations and other health care industry entities to support educational and collaborative activities, and we are so grateful for the generous support we received for the 2024 operating budget! This funding will enable HICE to continue to provide a collaboration platform to develop educational and "best practice" materials designed to streamline, simplify, and standardize regulatory policies and procedures that govern the provision of health care services that particularly require collaboration between health plans and their provider partners. You can view a list of the organizations that have contributed for 2024 here, and HICE would like to extend a special acknowledgement to those organizations in the CEO Leadership Circle, which means that they provided the requested maximum contribution amount AND they have staff either participating on the HICE Board of Directors and/or leading/co-leading a HICE Team or Workgroup:

  • Aetna, Alignment Health Plan, Blue Shield of California, Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan, Elevance Health, Health Net, Kern Family Health Care, SCAN Health Plan, Sharp Health Plan, UnitedHealthcare
The 2025 operating budget funding request letters will be sent in September. We encourage those organizations not currently contributing to strongly consider making a donation to support HICE activities. Thank you!

HICE Team / Website Updates

Important Changes to the HICE Credentialing Shared Audit Program Effective as of January 1, 2024 / Additional Changes Planned for 2025 – as previously shared, HICE re-evaluated the participation criteria for this value-added program and made a determination that beginning in 2024, non-NCQA accredited health plans that want to participate in the HICE Shared Credentialing Program in California, if not already doing so, will need to be contributing the requested funding contribution amount for the following year’s operating budget to be able to access any shared audit results in that coming year. You can learn more about these program changes here. As a result, there are a small number of health plans that will no longer be participating, but the majority of them will continue.

HICE has also recently started discussions around making some changes to provider organization participation as well beginning in 2025. More information on this will be provided as it becomes available.

Compliance Team – as a reminder, this team currently has workgroups addressing IT Systems Integrity shared audits and Delegated Entity Compliance shared audits. These programs make it possible for health plans (with delegate permission) to share audit results for IT system integrity and security and for compliance programs with other plans, and both audit tools offer a single corrective action plan functionality. To learn more about these activities and how to join these money and time-saving shared audit processes, please contact the team co-lead, Beth Richardson. There are also online training modules available on the HICE website that provide an overview of how each of these shared audit processes function – to access them, just log into your HICE account and you can find them under the “Training” menu option. Greater participation from plans and providers lessens the burden on the industry, so we encourage you to join in these collaborative audit processes today!

And based on current user feedback, additional enhancements to both of these web-based tools continue to be made, which is just one example of how funding contributions to HICE are utilized to promote the betterment of the healthcare industry. Industry support is vital to the continued activities of HICE and to make time-saving tools like these available, so please remember that a contribution is a sound investment that has the potential to save your organization many times that amount through HICE activities that result in operational efficiencies for the delegated model. Please reach out to your leadership and tell them why supporting HICE is important. Thank you!
